Thakur Sri Sri Bigyanananda Maharaj

The holy incarnation Sri Srimat Swami Bigyanananda Maharaj was born on Thursday 4th april,1912 (২২শে চৈত্র, ১৩১৮ সন). Though he was born at 9A Creek Lane, Calcutta, his ancestors were held from Burdwan, West Bengal. He formerly known as Ajit Kumar Saha. His Mother was Smt. Suhasini devi and his father was Sri Nagendranath Saha.

He came from a wealthy family of Calcutta, he could not pursue his formal education after demise of his parents and had to involve in their family business. On the contrary hundreds of learned people from various sector of the society acknowledge his proficiency in different subject matters.

First 35 years of his life was quite ordinary in spite of many unparalleled events occurred in Thakur's life.

16th August, 1946, Friday can be marked as the turning point of the life of Sri Ajit Kumar Saha. During the riots in Bengal (the day also known as ‘Direct Action Day – Hindu-Muslim Riots’ / ‘Great Calcutta Killing’), he was wounded by Assaulters and slipped into unconsciousness. After regaining consciousness, a question came in his mind, where he was during this period of unconsciousness!

This question gave birth to our utmost adorable incarnation Sri Srimat Swami Bigyanananda Maharaj. His renunciation and spiritual practices throughout 1946-1947 let him realize the Ultimate Truth and finally enriched with wisdom. Then came the alighting time, when many Mahatmas and great ascetics came to his adhesion. Jogananda Brahmachary, Shyamananda Abdhyut, many monks from Himalaya and many devotees from different creed, caste, gender and nationality came to meet him like bees’ swarm around a fully blossomed flower.

He said, that the only intension of human life should be to reveal “Absolute Truth” – to know ‘Soham’ - “to see the God”. He said, everyone can see the God or can acquainted with “Absolute Truth”, if one follows the three great rules – "Speak the Truth, Think the Truth, Practice the Truth”.

He taught us, “Do your just and proper duty. Be-independent. Don’t be afraid.”
He was married to Sri Rajlakhsmi Ma and they lived immaculately pure and spiritual lives together, like Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa and Sri Sarada Devi. He passed away on the 19th of December, 1967.
